on the beach breaks of Lennox Main Beach.
100
longboarders competed over 9 age & gender divisions, over 2 pristine winter days
with predominately offshore to southeasterly winds, but challenging variable swell
size 1 to 1.5 metre low tide dominated days with some great waves off the banks
on the higher tide.
A
standout round was the Over 30's semifinal on Sunday morning at 740am on a higher
tide, good punchy waves & down the line.
Saturday
was the bigger of the 2 days with a punishing sandbank at low tide to contest
around mid morning.
Heats
were completed, and two lots of semi's done in the afternoon in the Over 40's
& Over 50's Saturday night festivities were at the newly revamped Lennox Hotel,
a major sponsor.
Competitor
giveaways at 7.30pm post telecast of the Australia v NZ rugby.
Two
longboards from Global Surf Industries were given to two competitors (Greg Thomas
and Cadet Grommet Kurt Hardy).
Mal
& The Longboarders surf band played the place down during the night.
Stand
out results from the Cunningham family from Bundaberg QLD.
Sons
George & Ed coming 1st & 2nd in the Junior U/18's, George 5th in the Open 9ft
division.
Dad Glen
secured 2nd in the Over 30's & 2nd in the Over 40's division.
Stand
out surfing in the final event, the Open 9ft Final on Sunday, with Ben Dickens
from Byron the eventual winner in a quality final.
Sunday
at 3pm the preso was conducted at the Lennox Hotel, with the contest raffle going
off and one lucky soul winning a Walden Carbon fibred rail longboard. Raffle proceeds
to selected local & national charities as per previous years.
With
noteworthy sponsorship from Old Guys Rule clothing, surfboard distributor Global
Surf Industies, Coca Cola, XXXX-lager to name a few, this year's classic was heralded
as a lay-backed success, continuing an annual longboarding event for the Lennox
area.
