2009
NATIONAL OLD MAL TITLES
Report
from Robyn Harvey - Crescent Head Malibu Club
- The
Crescent Head Malibu Club hosted a very successful 2009 National Old Mal Titles
Friday 4th & Saturday 5th September.
- Friday's
conditions were very trying as the northerly winds really chopped up the surf.
- The southerly came through early Saturday
morning and once more the Point at Crescent saw some beautiful waves feathered
by off - shore winds.
- 6 Divisions were hotly
contested with "young gun" 20 year old Matt Chojnacki from Long Reef taking out
2 Divisions.
- Young Crescent Head local Anthony
Adams borrowed an Old Mal and blew everyone out of the water with his hang ten
and brilliant manoeuvres in the Under 40's 63'-68 Final finishing 2nd behind Matt.
- Many thanks to Jenny & Geoff from the 4
Shores Holiday Park for a great venue for the entertainment on the Friday night
with Richie Gudgen performing some great pieces from the 60's & 70's.
- Wine
tasting with compliments from Yarren Wines and a sausage sizzle made for an entertaining
evening.
- The competitors draw being a Jye
Burns 9'8" retro 3 stringer board was won by Lynden Riley.
- The
Show & Shine saw John Scholten win the overall trophy with a very rare Keith Paul
prestige model surfboard out of the factory of Peter Clarke.
- Most
original pre 60's D Fin surfboard was won by Bruce Pate.
- Dean
Nicholson's George Rice board originally ridden by his Dad won the best Original
63-68.
