- Off 'n Running in the 2009 State Titles.
- Last year's kick-off point was abandoned this year
for a far more favourable wave at Diggers (just one beach south of the
nudie beach!!).
- Approx. 8am start today, due to the shift.
- Five Divisions (21 Heats) in the water.
- Over 45.
- Over 50.
- Over 55.
- Over 60.
- 9 Foot Open.
- Great weather all day.
- Considering it was Sunday, and the surf was pretty
good, there were not a lot of free-surfers around to encroach on the
contest area.
- The only soar note on the whole day was a local
surf school operator who complained to the authorities because we had
taken up all of the carparking spots, because he reckoned the carpark
was his exclusive domain (Boo Hoo!!!).
- The start of the day saw nice waves in the middle
of the beach, but they were very difficult to judge due to the rising
sun (Bet they don't have that problem in WA).
- The judging team moved around a bit during the day
to ensure full coverage of all the waves ridden.
- By the end of the day, the contest had migrated
further north, toward the aforementioned nudie beach, as the conditions
there were far more contestable (Really, they were. I wouldn't lie).
- The last heats of the day were the Open 9 Footers,
and some big scores were had.

- Day Two on again at the northern end of Diggers.
- Short day today
- 17 Heats
- Open 9 Foot
- Over 45
- Over 50
- Over 55
- Over 60
- Some pretty decent waist-high walls to work with.
- Again, virtually no wind at the start of the day,
though the sky looked as though it could dump straight on top of us.
- Soon fined up.
- Got a bit of wind up by the end of the heats.
- Swell overall has been dropping off, so hopefully
there'll be some swell around tomorrow to work with.

- Day Three - Northern End Diggers Beach
- 21 Heats
- Divisions ...
- Over 35 Men
- Over 40
- Over 45
- Over 50
- Over 55
- Over 60
- 9 Foot Open
- Slightly bigger conditions than the previous day,
with a promise (sorta) of bigger things to come, compliments of a Low
Pressure System.
- Still great conditions in both the water and the
sun.
- A southerly started to blow towards the end of the
proceedings, but did nothing to spoil the day.
- A few high scores in the age divisions towards the
end of the day.
- Our "serial pest" (the supposed owner
/ operator of the local surf school) was in the water again today, and
as usual, surfing in the middle of the contest area, despite being asked
to move on more than one occasion
- Good on ya, ya Moron.

Wednesday 17/6/09
- Well, what a difference 24 hours (and a decent wind)
can make
- Today's Staging Point was the platform at Park Beach,
where we were greeted by 4-7 foot faces on a clean, smooth sea
- 20 Heats today
- Divisions ...
- Open 9 Foot
- Over 35 Men
- Over 40
- Over 45
- Over 50
- Over 55
- Over 60
- The Open 9's started the day off with some massive
scores
- Throw-aways were in the high 8's in some heats
- There was a slight lull in a couple of heats mid-way
through the day, but most were contested in some great over-head conditions.
- The wind started to whip up a bit towards the end,
but despite the chop it was creating, everyone got a pretty fair share
of waves

Friday 19/6/09
- Penultimate Day
- Park Beach
- 20 Heats
- Divisions ...
- Open Ladies
- Junior Boys
- Junior Girls
- Open 9 Foot
- Open 8 Foot
- Over 35 Women
- Over 40
- Cadets
- Picture this for a moment ...
- You put your dirty washing into the washing
machine
- You add some soap powder
- You hit the start button
- Then you suddenly realise you have left a huge
pile of dirt in oneof your pockets
- The resulting brown mesh is what our competitors
were faced with today
- A sea that could only be described as horrendous
- Brown, foaming, chunderous waves
- The contest was put on hold for half an hour while
other potential spots were sourced, but nowhere else could be found
that gave anything better than Park Beach
- To their credit, the Open Ladies, Junior Boys and
Junior Girls all paddled out in these extremely user-unfriendly conditions
- Water Security was provided for a number of the
Heats, but fortunately was not called on.
- The wind and associated rain was howling in from
off the ocean, producing horizontal rain, and lifting the tents off
the ground.
- Spectators spent a good deal of the time standing
on the legs of the tents to stop them from blowing over.
- By the time the 8-Footers hit the water, it was
almost impossible to distinguish colours until they were close to shore.
- With the wind whipping up to probably around 40
knots, the Head Judge called the day off with two remaining 8-Foot Semi-Finals
yet to be run.
- They will be run first thing tomorrow morning, just
prior to the start of the Finals.

- Final Day & Finals Day.

- The Finals headed out into some great waves.
- The rain fell at various intervals during the day,
but nothing near the torrential downpour from yesterday.
- The day finished on a great note, with some huge
scores, especially in the 9 Foot Open.
- The Cadets and the Juniors showed that there is
some strong competition coming up through the ranks.
- The Prezo was held at the Bowling Club.
